Characteristics of A Christ-Like Mind – Part II

Key Text: 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having
the same love, being one in spirit and purpose.

Study Text: 1 If you have any encouragement from being united with
Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness
and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having
the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3Do nothing out of
selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4
Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of
others. 5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: 6
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7 but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being
made in human likeness. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, he
humbled himself and became obedient to death– even death on a cross!

One Accord. Before preparing this message we did a computer-bible search for the
phrase, "one accord." We found this combination to appear only once in the Old
Testament (KJ version) and twelve times in the New Testament. And during these twelve
times, eleven of them were found in the book of Acts. In this book, we really see the Holy
Spirit move, but we can’t overlook one factor that allowed Him to move: His people
were on one accord. Acts 2:1 states, "[a]nd when the day of Pentecost was fully come,
they were all with one accord in one place."

I had a chance to go to a meeting where the people were on one accord; it felt like
electricity was in the air. The pastor in charge of the meeting stated, "When
you’ve got this many people believing God on one accord, miracles will happen,"
and that morning, miracles did occur. Some were healed from arthritis, and others were
healed from cancer — all because the people were on one accord.

Now let’s get down to the nitty and the gritty. How important is "our
way" in the grand scheme of things? Is it really important that we get out of church
at 12:30 p.m. just like we do every Sunday to make it home for the double-header? Is our
way the only way or even the right way —- every time? Last year, I had the opportunity
to participate in a revival. One night, just before closing, the Holy Spirit fell heavily
upon one of the ministers. Unfortunately, at the same time, I felt a "restless"
spirit upon the congregation. I couldn’t believe it, but many people in the
congregation were getting their belongings together to leave. Well, I was at the podium as
the brother finished exhorting, but the spirit was still upon him because he began to pace
the floor. At that point, the Holy Spirit spoke to me and said, "Tell them to stand
still in the presence of God," and I did. Within 30 seconds, God’s people came
together on one accord, and IT WAS THEN that God spoke to His people through a word of
prophecy.

In all honesty, this was the largest lesson I have learned down this road of ministry.
God’s people have got to lose this "all about me" mentality. Why? Because
someone’s healing may depend on you. Someone’s breakthrough may depend on you.
Someone’s deliverance may depend on you. The body of Christ has got to get on one
accord so that the Holy Spirit can destroy every demonic work from hell. So before you go
to church this Sunday, round up the prayer warriors in your church and go into prayer for
your congregation. Pray that the Holy Spirit will fall heavily upon God’s house and
that His will shall be done. Pray for the deliverance of all who come into God’s
house. Pray that God’s people come on one accord so His spirit will move mightily,
uninterrupted and unhindered. Expect a mighty move of the Holy Spirit — suddenly, as He
expects us to move purposefully and on one accord!!!!
