Closer Than Your Trouble

Closer Than Your Trouble

Psalms 138:7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me: thou shalt stretch forth thine hand against the wrath of mine enemies, and thy right hand shall save me.

Have you ever been in the midst of trouble? I mean smack-dab, right in the middle of trouble? I’m talking about the type of trouble that will change your life for the worse? Are you there right now? Many of us have experienced and some are currently experiencing the type of trouble that I mentioned. It is, to say the least, consuming. It takes up every waking moment. You wonder, “will I ever get out of this thing that I’m in.” For some people, their troubles come in the form of finances. For others, their troubles stem from relationship(s) or family. Also there are those whose troubles revolve around their health. And yet, I did not even mention the threats of terrorism, car-jackings, muggings, shootings, and other things that attempt to steal your peace and/or life.

In these scenarios and many like them, one often asks, “Where is God in these times of trouble?” Some feel that He is far off . . . Away . . . Distant . . . But beloved of God, He is closer to you than the trouble that is all around you. Our text tells us this:

Psalms 138:7 “Though I walk in the midst of trouble, thou wilt revive me.”

Roughly one year ago, I took a CPR course. In it we learned how to revive a person who loses consciousness. Now the thing that I remember from the course is that for revival to occur, the person who is performing CPR has to be close to the person he/she is attempting to save. I might as well tell it like it really is. You’ve got to be right on top of the person to revive him/her. You have to be less than an arm’s length away and in certain situations lips to lips and mouth to mouth. You can’t revive anyone AT&T style — “long distance.”

Revival is an intimate ordeal, and our text tells us that the Lord will revive us even in the midst of our trouble. I’m just passing this tidbit of text to you. Even though you are in the midst of the greatest trial you’ve ever been in, God is closer to you than the trouble that’s all around you. If He could be in the fiery furnace with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, then surely He is with while you are in the midst of trouble.

He promised us, “I will never leave you, nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5). The God who never breaks His promise is forever with us, and when He says “never leave” He means “never.” Whether we are going from sickness to healing, poverty to prosperity, or bad to best, our God will be with us through it all because it is His good pleasure not only to see us to it but also to be with us through it. So if you are in the midst of trouble, thank God while you’re in that situation because the trouble around you is only an indicator that God, the Father, the Almighty, the Peace, the Protector, the Provider, is even closer than your trouble!
