He Saved You A Spot

He Saved You A Spot!

John 14:2 “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”

One night, I was attempting to put my older son, Eddie, to bed. However, he kept getting up with those excuses all 3-year-olds have. After a while, instead of getting up, he began calling from his room, “Daddy, Daddy, Daddy.” At this point, my patience began to wear thin. You see, it was two hours after his “normal” bed time, so when I got up, I did so with a mission to ensure my child was going to go to sleep— once and for all!

When I got to my son’s room, he had a surprise waiting on me. The little “angel” wanted to show me how he could snap his fingers. Of course, I was not in the mood for entertainment and was about to let him know that I was serious when he said something that melted my heart: “Dad, do you want to lay down with me? I saved you a spot.” In a mere moment, I felt like the most important person in the world; all of the anger and frustration left as I found myself lying down next to my little buddy. It was then that God brought this week’s text to me: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.”

I know many of us have read this text time and time again. As a little boy, I remember this scripture being read every Sunday at church. But the fullness of its meaning really didn’t come to me until my own son said, “Dad . . . I saved you a spot.” As important as I felt, however, I tell you the truth: I feel even more important to know that Jesus saved me a spot in heaven. It doesn’t matter that I used to spin records for satan; Jesus saved me a spot. It doesn’t matter that I used to open and close the club; He saved me a spot! It doesn’t matter that I used to use people to get what I wanted; He saved me a spot! It doesn’t matter that I was a liar, thief, or fornicator, He saved me a spot!

Now even though I feel oooooh so special right now, guess what? I have to be honest with you . . . I’m no more special than you. You see, Jesus saved you a spot too! The sins that you’ve committed, regardless of what they may have been, can be forgiven just like mine were forgiven. And don’t worry; Jesus will not reject you. As He tells us in John 6:37, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.” You don’t have to get right to meet Him; you just have to meet Him, and He’ll get you right. As Jesus said, “I go away to prepare a place for you.” He didn’t say, “You need to get right so that I can prepare a place for you.” All you have to do is be His, and He will do the rest.

Beloved of God, you have the ultimate “hook-up” in heaven, Jesus Christ, who went back to sit on the right hand of God the Father Himself to reserve your spot in heaven. To confirm your reservation, pray this prayer of salvation:

God, I know I’ve done some bad things in my life, and I ask Your forgiveness of those things. I ask that you forgive me through Your Son Jesus as I make Him my Lord and Savior today. Jesus come into my life, and make me what I need to be. I believe you died for my sins, so I ask you to wash my sins away and place me in right standing with Almighty God, Your Father. I want my spot in heaven with you, and I thank you for saving me this day so that I can live with you forever!
