So What Would It Take?

Matthew 26th Chapter
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
15 And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
16 And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

What would it take for you to betray Christ? How about enough money to catch up the bills? What about that new house, car, or job you wanted? Even more, what if you could get the husband or wife you’ve been waiting for? Would that make you leave Him, forsake Him, or denounce Him?

As I began to read today’s text, the words from the 16th verse exploded right off the page: “And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.” The sad truth of this matter is that once Judas received the offer of the thirty pieces of silver, he was eager to betray Jesus. The word says that He “sought” (looked out for) the opportunity; in other words, he tried to find a time to betray Jesus. Unfortunately, there are believers today who are also selling out Jesus, and they may not even realize it because the price is not as obvious as gold.

For instance, there are some who forsake Him by staying in a relationship He didn’t ordain. And to stay in the relationship, some may even forsake Sunday fellowship with the Lord to please the person they are with. Now, if I can share anything with you, I’ll share this: “It’s better to be alone that to be wrong!” Beloved of God, I’m finally to the point where I can truly tell you that “if Jesus ‘ain’t’ in it, then I don’t want it!” Really… Why would you want anything else? And even if you could have everything you wanted, guess what? After getting it all, one of four things would happen: (1) It would rust, (2) It would get ruined, (3) Someone would rob you of it, or (4) You would move into eternity, and it would have to remain here on earth. So to conclude, let’s go back to Judas.

If we look ahead to the 27th chapter of Matthew, we’ll see that Judas eventually realized his mistake. Verse 3 tells us that “he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priest and elders” (NIV). You see, Judas couldn’t even enjoy the money, knowing that he had gotten it by forsaking Jesus.

So whatever it is you are believing for, know that there is no “short cut” to get it. You don’t have to break the rules to get it. You don’t have to lie to get it. You don’t even have to forsake Jesus to get it. All you have to do is know that God is a rewarder of those that diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6) So seek Him with all your heart. Don’t try to figure a way out; just seek Him because once you have Him, you have everything.
