Tricked

"Tricked – Part IV"

John 3:5 – " Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say
unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter
into the kingdom of God."

Last week we discussed the hellish atmosphere that is created in nightclubs
across the world. We pointed out how those who go to such places are dwelling
not only in physical darkness, but more significantly in spiritual darkness.
Jesus said in John 3:20 that "[e]veryone who does evil hates the light,
and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed"
(NIV). This, of course, is illustrated in the type of behavior that transpires
in the darkness of the club:

"Adultery, fornication,
uncleanness, lasciviousness,  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance,
emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,  Envyings, murders,
drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I
have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not
inherit the kingdom of God" (Galatians 5:19-21).

But look at what Jesus says of those who walk in the light: "But
whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly
that what he has done has been done through God" (John 3:21, NIV). God’s
people DO NOT hang out in the club!!!

Those who go to the club lust after the flesh. They don’t walk in the
spirit, so they are blind to spiritual matters. When Eddie was DJing and when I
was partying, we had no idea what those chants really meant. We were blind. But
now that we’re walking in the light, the Lord has given us this message to try
to prevent others from falling into the enemy’s snare. You see, as long as
people are spiritually blind, the devil can trick them into praising him (see
"Tricked I and II") and into denying their salvation (or the
possibility of salvation). But today, we serve notice to the devil that he has
been exposed for the liar that he is. NO LONGER will God’s people hang out in
the club!!!

Let’s take a second look at the chant we discussed last week: "The
roof, the roof, the roof is on fire. We don’t need no water. Let the @#@$%$#@
burn." This time we want to consider line two. You see, not only does
"the fire" suggest impending doom, but also the absence of "the
water" does. As our tidbit text informs us, "Except a man be born of
water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God" (John
3:5). No one can enter the kingdom of God without the water and the Spirit.
What is the water? Well, in John 4:14 Jesus tells the woman at the well that
"whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst;
but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing
up into everlasting life." This "living water" is our only way
to the kingdom of God. And if you deny the water, you deny your access to the
Father (John 14:6). As Jesus explained to Peter, "If I wash thee not, thou
hast no part with me" (John 13:8).

Satan has tricked so many people into saying that they don’t need the water
because he knows that in hell there is no water, only fire. The line, "we
don’t need no water," is filled with so much deceit—–because we do need
the water!! Do you remember when you were a kid and asked a friend for some
candy, and that friend said, "No?" You probably replied, "I
didn’t want none of your ‘ole candy anyhow!" Well, that’s how it is with
satan. He knows that even if he wanted the water, he couldn’t have it. So he’s
saying, "I didn’t want your ‘ole water anyhow! I don’t need it." And
he’s getting as many folks as possible to confess the same thing. But unlike
satan, we were created in God’s image, so we do get a second chance. We do need
Jesus, the living water, the key to our salvation, the sacrifice that was made
so that we might have eternal life in heaven and abundant life on earth. If
people only knew what they were really saying, believe me, they wouldn’t say it!
So now that you know, you’ll never be tricked again, and instead of choosing to
walk into a club, you will choose to walk in the fullness of salvation.
