Your Beauty Treatments (Part Three)

2 Mins read

Hi Ladies,

We’ve spent two messages on the story of Esther and the twelve months of beauty treatments she was required to submit to before she went before the king. Well, today I want to talk about a part of Esther’s preparation that began long before she arrived at the palace, long before she was even born. You see, the bible tells us that God chose us before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:4), so Esther being brought to the king’s palace didn’t take God by surprise. He knew her destiny, and he knew her cousin Mordecai would play a crucial role in it.

As the bible says, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he won’t depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6). This is exactly what Mordecai did. He trained Esther in the ways of God, so when she would be faced with defining moments, such as the one with Haman trying to annihilate the Jews, she would be equipped to act appropriately. She would be equipped “for such a time as this” (Esther 4:14). I’m talking about spiritual preparation.

When confronted with this difficult situation, at first she hesitated, but then she got moving in her faith. She did not allow her spiritual training to depart from her. Calling all the Jews, her servants, and even her spiritual father, Mordecai, to fast and pray, Esther took charge of the situation and exercised boldness, as she proclaimed, “if I perish, I perish” (Esther 4:16).

Yes, we are told that Esther was physically beautiful (“of form and face” 2:7 NIV), but that spiritual foundation was also an important part of Esther’s beauty. I’m sure when she came before the king and he laid eyes on her, he saw beyond the physical beauty; he saw that inner glow, the same glow that led to the favor she received from everyone else, the same favor that led him to choose her as queen over all of the other young maidens in the land. The king saw the complete package, and what he saw—physically and spiritually—is what prompted him to extend his golden scepter to her and allow her to come into his presence.

As she stood there, a vision of loveliness—purified (with oil of myrrh), adorned (with jewelry and cosmetics), and consecrated (through prayer and fasting)—Esther was used by God (the King of kings) to save not only herself but also a whole race from annihilation. Do you see just how important it is for us to be what God has called us to be?

Let’s not sit back and allow the people in our families, schools, jobs, communities, or neighborhoods to be taken out by the enemy. Get movin’ and exercise to get the physical man prepared for the journey ahead. And don’t forget to exercise the spiritual man as well (through fasting, praying, praising, worshipping, fellowshipping with believers, and reading the Word of God), so when your “such a time as this” arrives, you will be able to spring into action and bring the people in your sphere of influence into God’s saving grace.

Get Movin’,
