Behold Thy Mother

Behold Thy Mother

John 19:25-27 "Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his
mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.
When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he
loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith he to the
disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his
own home."

Our tidbit text surrounds Jesus’ final hour on earth before His
resurrection. As we look at our text we notice that there by the cross was his
mother and His trusted disciple John. Before giving up His spirit, the last
thing that Jesus told His mother was, "Woman, behold thy son!"
referring to John. And He told John, "Behold thy mother!" What He was
really saying to John was, "Take care of my mother."

Now as you are driving in your car or just sitting at your desk meditate on
this for a while. Here we have the Savior of the Universe–He who has all power
in his hand and who can call Legions of Angels–charging his most trusted
disciple to "take care" of his mother, but why? Because she was
special. Not to the point of worship but to the degree that He wanted her to
have physical and emotional comfort at that very moment when He would give up
His spirit for us on Calvary’s cross.

What should this teach us? "To Take care of our mothers." Not just
this Sunday (Mother’s Day) but every day. For those of you who are blessed
enough to still have your mothers, you best take note. I know that every day
you might not have gotten along greatly but by the power of Him who said,
"Behold thy mother!" you can behold (look immediately to or have
immediate compassion on) your mother. You can get over the pain of the past and
have the relationship that God desires the two of you to have.

Many of you may say, "Well you don’t know my mother — we just don’t
get along." I say to you this: "Come Sunday, Thousands, upon Thousands,
upon Thousands of US will be holding flowers over our mothers’ graves, but
instead of holding your mother and telling her you love her, you choose to hold
a grudge. While there’s still time, it’s best you BEHOLD THY MOTHER!!!"

Have A Blessed & Wonderful Mother’s Day!
