The Girl In “The Hood” or “The Hood” In The Girl (A True Story)

Isaiah 32:8 – “But the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.”

There was a certain girl who lived in “the hood.” She and her family lived in a house that was less than modest, to say the least. By no means was her family rich, and everyone knew this to be so. But this girl was different than the circumstances she was birthed into. Even at an early age, she began to do something that her peers and even most adults snickered about. She began to act “strange,” as they put it. She began to talk “properly” and not like a little “hood girl” ought to. She began to walk differently and carry herself like a princess.

More people began to talk about her — white, black, young, old. In gest, they mimicked her “prissy” accent wondering what the little “hood girl” was doing. Yet, they did not know that while she was practicing for her destination. During which, she suffered many things of many people — just as the woman with the issue of blood had suffered.

Mark 5th Chapter
25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
26 And had suffered many things of many physicians…

Yet the little “hood girl” endured. There was no “Prince Charming” in sight to sweep her out of her situation over night. All she had was a “principle”— to be persistent, and persistent she was. She stayed the course, continuing to see herself free from the circumstance she was in. Even after being told that she was “acting white,” she stayed the course, holding true to destiny with determination. She realized one thing along the way: “If I don’t see myself free from this, no one else will!”

Days became weeks, weeks became months, and months became years. After all the persecution, she graduated high school. She got a job in a fast-food restaurant and never changed, still drawing “odd looks” from time to time. But she still stayed the course. She finally had enough money to move into a modest apartment; today, she is constantly looking for bigger and better.

I would love to tell you that just like George and Weezie, she moved up to the east side to a deluxe apartment in the sky, but it would not be true. All I can tell you is that “our girl” got out of her situation, and even doing that was a miracle. The key to her getting out was she saw herself free before she was free and never looked back. Our text says that “the liberal deviseth liberal things; and by liberal things shall he stand.” In other words, wherever you are (mentally and spiritually) will determine the things you will operate in, and whatever you operate in is what will manifest. In other words, if you have a poverty mentality, you will devise poverty plans and will continue to walk in poverty.

Prosperity is not just having a lot of money by itself. What prosperity really is is having the ability to make a choice. It is God’s good and perfect plan to bust you out of whatever you are in, but the question is this… “Are you in it or is it in you?” If we look at the Israelites after Moses led them out of Egypt, we will find a perfect example of “it being in you.” As soon as the situation got tough, they began to complain and wanted to head back. Are you in it or is it in you? God can remove you from the situation and the circumstance in the twinkling of an eye, but if it’s in you, this will do no good. This is when we find ourselves back in the club after God has delivered us from there. Or we find ourselves smoking again after we’ve been freed from that. Or we find ourselves trying to find a 2:00 a.m. sex mate after meeting God’s deliverance at the altar.

“Our girl” reached prosperity because mentally she began operating in the ability of choice (prosperity) well before anyone could see it. She was, at one point, the girl in the hood, but I believe that the hood was never in the girl, and that’s why she is no longer there and can never live there again!

This 4th of July, enjoy liberty in a way that you never have before.
