Vacation Bible School

From August 2-6, Restored Glory Christian Center hosted its first Vacation Bible School, and indeed, it was a success!

Throughout the week, 40 children and 15 adults came to the church to learn, fellowship, volunteer, and have fun in the name of the Lord.  Two of the participants also received Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The VBS theme, “God Has a Plan for My Life,” focused on the life of Moses and the Ten Commandments.  Each night, VBS participants received a valuable lesson to apply to their daily walk with God.  The nightly topics were as follows, respectively: “God wants me to obey,” “God wants to be first in my life,” “God is my friend,” “God gives second chances,” and “God wants His glory to shine in me.”

Each lesson, innovatively taught by Pastor Eddie and/or Veronica Yon, was followed with corresponding arts and crafts, and games.  In addition to developing the VBS curriculum, Mrs. Yon prepared daily newsletters, so children could review the lessons at home with their parents.

The participants were taught arts and crafts, coached outdoor games, and Tiwana Miller led the toddlers group.  Registration was facilitated by Stephanie Robinson, and dinner was coordinated by Tonya Scott.

The event culminated on Friday night with a pizza and ice cream sundae party. The kids were also treated to a musical performance by Christian rap artist, “Boogie” (Steve Banks).  Each child was awarded a certificate of participation, a salvation booklet (entitled “I’m Saved!! Now What?”) written by Pastor Eddie Yon, and a rap CD (entitled “Church Certified”) autographed by “Boogie.”

Restored Glory would like to thank all of the volunteers who gave their time, talent, and treasure to ensure the success of the event.  The church also thanks the parents and children who participated and contributed so much to VBS success at Restored Glory Christian Center.  To God be the glory!

Wham! Bam! School Jam!

On Saturday, August 6, Restored Glory Christian Center hosted its fourth annual Wham! Bam! School Jam! at Clifford Brown Memorial Park. As early as 8:30 a.m., children and parents began arriving at the park for the event, which officially started at 10:00 a.m.

Pastor Eddie Yon opened the outreach with a prayer for the children, families, and school system of Jefferson County. Throughout the event, church members and friends of the ministry provided powerful, individualized prayers of comfort, healing, wholeness, and destiny for attendees.

It is estimated that more than 300 people attended the activities, with 280+ backpacks being distributed. In addition to backpacks, the children received school supplies, hotdogs, chips, and drinks. The church also gave each participant a salvation booklet (entitled “I’m Saved!! Now What?”) written by Pastor Eddie Yon, and a rap CD, entitled “Church Certified,” featuring Christian artists of the region. Representatives from Whole Child and Florida Kid Care were on hand to distribute agency service information, and Police Chief Fred Mosley joined in the festivities by giving away bicycle helmets to some of the kids.

Children enjoyed playing on the park’s playground and in a bouncer, provided by Party Central Plus of Tallahassee. Other entertainment was provided by Christian rappers “Boogie” (Steve Banks, a member of Restored Glory), “Christian Bad Boy,” and “Maintain.” The activities were captured by Kevin Borschel Photography and on video by Veronica Yon.

Restored Glory Christian Center would like to thank the 25+ members and friends who volunteered throughout the event as well as the community for coming out. “We’re here to be a blessing to the region” said Pastor Yon.
