The Ever-Expecting Mother

John 2nd Chapter

1 And the third day
there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there: 2 And both Jesus was called, and his
disciples, to the marriage. 3 And
when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine. 4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what
have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come. 5 His mother saith unto the servants,
Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. 6 And
there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying
of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece. 7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the
waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And he saith unto them, Draw out
now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it. 9 When the ruler of the feast had
tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the
servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the
bridegroom, 10 And
saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when
men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine
until now. 11 This
beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his
glory; and his disciples believed on him.

There is a beautiful word used to describe a woman who is pregnant –
"Expecting." I say this is a beautiful word because it’s a word or
shall I say state of mind and spirit that never leaves her. When I was growing
up no one pushed me more than my mother. Sometimes I thought, "Lady, could
you just leave me be for a little while." But she couldn’t. Even when I
was 25 years old, our last year together, she still stayed on my case. Why?
Because 25 years after my birth she was still EXPECTING!!!

I didn’t really understand this until the Lord spoke to me in our kitchen
regarding this matter. He led me back to this passage of scripture and wanted
me to focus on the actions of the mother. Now from our scripture, the mother is
really pushing her son out there. She and her son were at a wedding and the
bride and groom ran out of wine. Instead of trying to find a place to buy wine,
the mother turned to her son and asked him to some degree, "So what are
you going to do?" (3rd verse)

What we need to see in this passage is that the mother knew who her child
really was – "BEFORE THE TIME!!!" Before anyone else even had an idea
of who Jesus was, His mother knew. She knew that He was the "problem
solver" to every problem. She knew that He had the ability to correct
anything that was wrong. All He had to do was put forth the effort. (I hope you
see where I’m taking you here.) Even in the fourth verse when Jesus stated,
"Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come," Mary
knew that anytime was her baby’s time. He just had to step out there and
fulfill His God-sent destiny.

Even before her baby decided to take those "first-steps,"
"Proud-Mary" told the servants, "Whatsoever he saith unto you,
do it." Honey, mama knew that everyone was in the midst of greatness, but
still no one else knew. No one else had an inkling of an idea, but mama knew.
She always knew. That’s why she was there pushing like a mother in labor. If
that mother doesn’t push, that baby won’t come. If that mother doesn’t travail,
that baby will never leave the womb. Somebody’s got to push and if the mother
doesn’t then who will!!??

Today, if your mother is still Expecting, it’s best you praise God from whom
all blessings flow! If she’s still pushing, maybe you need to stop pushing back.
Let her push; she’s probably trying to give birth to you in some area of your
life. Let her push because it’s a blessing to have her with you to push. You
see, there are three things we can hold on to when it comes to our
mothers: Our Memories, Our Mother, or Our Grudges. Believe it or not, some of
you actually have a choice, but some of US have NO CHOICE! We can only hold on
to memories because our mothers have gone on to be with the Lord. But for those
of you who still have your mothers with you, you can at least choose between
your mother or your grudges.

This Mother’s Day, if I were blessed enough to hold my mother I would. Even
though she pushed me harder than I pushed myself, I now see why. It was because
she always knew that NOW was the time for me to live out my potential. She was
an "Ever-Expecting" mother who wanted me to reach the fullness of my
potential. She was always expecting me to be what God wanted me to be, but all
the time, I felt she was just "hasseling me." I wish I had "come
out of the womb" earlier so that she could have seen with her natural eyes
all of her lessons come to harvest, but sometimes babies just have to stay in
past the due date.

In closing, we can say without a doubt that only God can build a mother
because she knows what is really inside of her child because that child was
first inside of her. That’s why mama’s always on your back telling you,
"do better," "get better grades," and "try
harder." The very beginning of Mary "pushing" her child was a
miracle, and the end result was the greatest man who ever existed. Today, I ask
you, "What will be your end result?" I guarantee you this. Whatever
it is, it’s only better than you think because one woman decided to PUSH!!!!

To all our moms (Natural and Surrogate), we love you and couldn’t have
gotten here or where we are without you.

Have A Blessed Mother’s Day
