He Heard You!
Psalms 6:8 – “Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.”
A few years ago, Veronica and I were in a restaurant having lunch when two women walked in and sat a few tables away from us. Shortly after we finished our meal, I overheard one of the ladies make a statement, which she completed by saying, “in the name of Jesus.” At that moment, the Lord told me to do something that took a tremendous amount of boldness.
He said, “Go over there and tell her, ‘I heard her!'”
I was apprehensive about doing this; however, I proceeded to do what God told me to do.
When I approached the ladies’ table, I said to the one, “Excuse me ma’am.”
She replied, “Yes.”
I continued, “He heard you.”
Then with a little sister-girl attitude and a slight ‘roll of the neck,’ she said, “Excuuuuse me!”
I replied, “He heard you.”
She then said, “What are you talking about?”
I then said to her, “Didn’t you say, ‘In the name of Jesus?’ Well…. He told me to tell you that He heard you.”
At that moment her mouth dropped open. To say that she was shocked would clearly be an understatement..
It should be no surprise to us that God hears every word we mumble and grumble. However, the difference-maker in our attitude is whether or not we know that He hears us. In this week’s text, David says this: “Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity, for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping.” Now, the thing that I love sharing so much about this text is the difference between David’s perception and his position. If you read the beginning of the sixth Psalm up to verse seven, you can tell that David was going through a rough time.
Psalm 6
1 O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
3 My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?
4 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies’ sake.
5 For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
6 I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
7 Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.
Now, of all the things that David was going through, his entire situation “turned on a dime” in the eighth verse, but why? If the truth be told, his situation had not changed. He was still in what He was in. His enemies hadn’t changed. They were still where they were. So how could David go from quitter to conqueror in the short span of one verse? Simply because He realized God heard Him.
David knew that if he could get God to hear him one time, that was all it would take—simply because his God loved him too much to turn away. David knew that once involved, God is too complete to leave needs unattended and unfulfilled. And because he knew that his heavenly Father heard him, that was enough to change him from a whiner to a winner.
Therefore today, we remind you that God has heard you. Whether it was a small prayer or a huge concern, He Heard You. Whether you called Him early in the day or late in the night, He Heard You. Whether you asked Him to do something for you or asked Him to give you the power to do it, He heard you. Yes, beloved of God, He could never leave you where you are and the way you are—- because He Heard You!
