Know Your Strength

1 Mins read

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Philippians 4:13

Have you ever experienced a time when you felt maybe you had bitten off more than you could chew? Perhaps it seemed like everything—I mean, every chore, every practice, every meeting, every task, every report, and every request— had the same due date. As the walls of responsibility closed in around you, you may have even uttered or thought these words: “How in the world am I going to do this?”

Many times, I have had due date stacked upon due date, task after task, chore upon chore, and by the grace of God, I’ve accomplished what I needed to do. Actually, this week was one of those times. And one scripture that helped me make it through was a very familiar one: Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Several months ago, Pastor Yon shared a message in which he talked about the difference between a saying and a scripture. A saying doesn’t have the authority that a scripture has; it sure doesn’t have the strength because it doesn’t have the backing of Almighty God. As Christians, we have to be careful because we’ve heard some of these sayings so often that we’ve allowed them to become a part of our psyche—-so much that we utter them without thinking twice.

This morning, as I reflected upon my super busy week and thanked God for giving me the strength (and also the wisdom) to complete what I needed to do, I realized that when we say, “How in the world…,” we’re setting ourselves up for failure. As Philippians 4:13 reminds us, our strength comes from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ—not from the world! Our strength comes from the King of kings, Lord of lords, Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace—not from the sayings of man! So get to know your strength and rely on Him to see you through!

In His Love,
Veronica Yon
