Let God Do A New Thing!

2 Mins read

“Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it?” – Isaiah 43:19
I don’t know how many of you are like me, but at times, I can be somewhat of a hoarder. Whether it’s an appliance, an outfit, a piece of furniture, or maybe even a shoe box, I’ll let that that item stay with me until it breaks or until someone else comes along and gets rid of it.

Well, Pastor Eddie and I have had a color laser printer for several years. Actually, Pastor would affectionately refer to it as our “workhorse.” We used it for church flyers, birthday party invitations, letters, programs…..basically everything!! Sometimes, we would complain about how big it was or how slowly it printed, but it got the job done, so we kept it.

A few months ago, we experienced a sad day in the Yon household when our dearly beloved printer kicked the bucket! What were we to do? At first, we tried to get it fixed, but we soon discovered that the printer wasn’t worth the investment. Reluctantly, Pastor dashed off to the office supply store and came back with a new printer. Immediately, I noticed several differences between it and our former workhorse. For one, it didn’t take up as much space, so now we could organize our desk more efficiently. Secondly, the new printer processed jobs much more quickly than our dearly departed friend; now we could print more sheets in a shorter time span. But the last difference takes the cake, for not only did our new equipment print, but also it scanned, photocopied, and faxed! Surprisingly, with one new piece of equipment, we gained so much, including additional space, faster printing, and more options and capabilities.

This morning, as Pastor began using our new friend to scan documents and then convert them to PDF files, he exclaimed, “The best thing that happened is our old printer died.” As soon as the words left his mouth, I thought to myself, “Hmmmm, the Holy Spirit is speaking to me!”

Isaiah 43:19 tells us that God desires to do a “new thing” in our lives. He doesn’t want us to stay the same. But sometimes we get so comfortable getting by or making due that we fail to see His desire to take us to a new level; instead of moving on, we get stuck in lamenting or trying to fix that which was lost. But take heart in knowing that as more is required of us, “new equipment” (anointing, finances, relationships, education, etc.) will be needed to get the job done! So let go, and let God use that “new thing” to propel you into your God-given destiny!!
