Unity in the Body of Christ- Part III

The Commanded Blessing

Psalms 133
1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
3b … for there the LORD commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

In this life, I have seen and heard many promises and “pitches.” Most of them have offered to take me to a better place—–a place of financial security, luxury– for a bargain, or even better self-esteem through diet, hair implants, clothes, exercise, or education. Of course, some of these places will provide short-term relief, but according to the Word, there is one place that will ensure long-term relief, a promised place called “UNITY.” The 3rd verse of our text explains that “there [in unity] the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for ever.” In other words, if we dwell together in unity, we will receive “the commanded blessing.”

What is the commanded blessing? It’s when God speaks the blessing over us and, as Emeril says, “BAM!!!” we see it. One example of the commanded blessing is Lazarus. When Lazarus was dead, he was … well dead! He had no faith, he had no doubt, he had no offering to bring forth, and he had no worship to give. But God incarnate (Jesus) showed up and commanded the blessing of life over him. Some say, Lazarus had the option of lying there dead, but I beg to differ. Lazarus had to get up; that was his only option – – – up and out of his situation. You see, when God shows up within your circumstance and commands a blessing on you, you’re blessed. You can’t escape it, and you can’t fake it! You’re blessed, and everyone is going to see the manifestation of the blessing.

Now, if the body of Christ would truly lay hold of unity, I’m telling you, we would see God move in new ways to get us up and out of our situations. We could get up and out of debt, sickness, lack, and want with no problem. If the truth be told, what unity does is tell God, “Your agenda is bigger than my agenda.” If we could put aside trivialities for the kingdom of God, then we would show God that we can be trusted with the blessings. But if we can’t work together for the common cause of the kingdom, how can we expect to be trusted enough with the unlimited power, blessings, and manifestation of God? This is why unity is so vital to the body of Christ. It is the “proving ground” to show God that we are sons and daughters, not little children.

So in closing, put aside those small, meaningless, insignificant things that are blocking God’s commanded blessing. Let’s all get to that place called “Unity,” for in that place, God has commanded the blessing He so desires to release.
