Where Do You Want To Go In 2000? – Part II
Matthew 17th
1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John
his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart, 2
And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his
raiment was white as the light. 3 And, behold, there appeared
unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. 4 Then answered
Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt,
let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one
for Elias. 5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud
overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my
beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
Monday, 12/27/99, we started our series by discussing the "Where You
Were People." When it comes to reaching the Godly Destiny, these people
would rather reminisce over past successes rather than face the hardships and
adversities of here and now. Today we will take a look at the "Where You
Are People." The significant thing about these people is that they are TOO
satisfied with where they are. They feel that where they are is the best of
what God has, so they want to "set up camp" and quit climbing toward
their Godly Destiny.
Our text starts with Jesus taking Peter, James and John up to what is known
as the Mount of Transfiguration. Upon this mountain, the three men witness
Jesus change before their very eyes. His face begins to shine, and His clothes
turn white as light. Then Moses and Elias appear and begin talking with Him. To
top it all off, in this same place, God Himself speaks and says, "This is
my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him." Now with all this
going on, surely we can deduce that the power of God is in this place.
Therefore, we probably understand why Peter would say, "Lord, it is good
for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for
thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias"(4th). In short, this is a GOOD
PLACE.
So why not let Peter set up the tabernacles there? Well, the reason is the
same as it is with your life. It’s good to be where you are, but it’s not the
place where God wants you to set up camp. Even though it is a good place, it is
not the final place!!! God’s not through blessing you just yet!!! I know that
you think that where you are is the end all be all of places because it might
be going really well for you now. But don’t set up camp just yet! You’ve still
got some more climbing to do. Jesus is not through taking you where He wants
you to go.
Now I hear you saying, "So why am I here (in this good place)?"
Because He’s giving you a "little taste" to encourage you to keep
climbing. I love what my Pastor says, "If it gets any better I can stand
it!"—–and I’m sure you can too!! (Actually, we are all in a good place
if we are reading this!) So at all costs, keep climbing with Christ. No matter
where you are, know that He wants you beyond where you are. Don’t set up camp
just yet because the best is yet to come!!!
